Manuka honey is a miracle worker for many different skin conditions and acne is no exception. Acne sufferers of all ages swear by it for shortening acne breakouts, reducing redness, and soothing irritated areas. While many over-the-counter acne treatments are drying and irritating, Manuka is moisturizing and soothing and works with your skin instead of against it.
Why It Works
Manuka has natural anti-bacterial properties which can help to fight bacteria that cause acne. It is also anti-inflammatory which can reduce redness and irritation and its moisturizing properties help to soothe the skin that has become angry and inflamed from the acne (and possibly from harsh products you’ve used to fight the acne!)
How to Use It
Many people who’ve had success with Manuka for acne simply wash their face and then apply pure Manuka over their faces like a mask and let it sit for about two hours. Wash it off with a gentle cleanser.
You can also use Manuka honey as a spot treatment, applying it with a cotton swab to pimples and inflamed areas. Leave it on for as long as possible and then wipe off with a warm wash cloth.
What Kind of Manuka to Use
For acne, we recommend using Manuka with a UMF of 15 or higher. The higher the number, the higher the antibacterial properties. Manuka products with UMF numbers are members of the UMF Honey Association that runs an independent verification program. I recommend Kiva Certified UMF 15+ Raw Manuka Honey or Manukora Manuka Honey UMF 20+.
Just think of the money you’ll save when you don’t need to buy all of those chemical-laden, drying acne products anymore!
